Goals vs. Resolutions in 2020

It’s that time of year again. Every January 1st people make tons of resolutions of what they want to change in their life, which is awesome, but the problem lies with making TOO many resolutions or setting our expectations too high. If/when we slip and fail at achieving any of them, then we run the risk of beating ourselves up because we failed to lose those extra pounds or quit an addiction,or go to the gym 5x/week. We simply give up on our plans and revert back to our old habits, feeling discouraged and like a failure.

It’s better to move forward with small, realistic and steady changes, than to take giant, unsustainable leaps which add pressure on ourselves, and perhaps set ourselves up for failure. Remember who won the race between the tortoise and the hare? Also, so what if we do not get started on January 1st? What’s wrong with February 1st, or March 10th for that matter? Better late than never.

If you want to lose weight, then pick a realistic goal of losing a few pounds per month while making healthier food choices. Treat yourself occasionally. Start going to the gym a couple times a week, then go more frequently once you are comfortable with that routine.

So this year, choose one or two goals, work on them daily, and once you’ve got them mastered, move on to another goal you’d like to achieve before the year is finished.
